Satin Black Color Coat Vinyl Paint

The SEM 15243, Satin Black, Color Coat Vinyl Paint is available in a 12 oz Aerosol Can and covers approximately 10 square feet. This specific paint is designed to restore or change the color of vinyl, carpet, properly prepped and primed metal, velour, and plastic. It is commonly used to refinish vehicle interiors and motorcycle seats. The Color Coat series by SEM are known for being simple to use and quick to dry. Additionally, they are very elastomeric and will not crack.

Surface preparation is key when using SEM Color Coat. It is crucial that the area being sprayed is very clean. Hot soapy water should be used whenever possible, followed by scrubbing the surface with SEM 39362 SEM Soap and rinsing with water. After drying, the surface should be cleaned with either SEM 38343 Vinyl Prep or SEM 38353 Plastic Prep. If the surface is not clean, the product will not stick. For plastic surfaces, a plastic adhesion promoter is necessary. Both SEM 39863 Flexible Bonding Clear and SEM 38363 Sand Free are recommended options. These should be applied according to the manufacturer's instructions.

When applying the Color Coat, it is best to do so in light, even coats with 5-10 minutes between each coat, rather than one heavy coat. For added protection or a change of sheen, a clear coat can be applied. SEM offers three options: SEM 13003 High Gloss, SEM 13013 Satin Gloss, or SEM 13023 Low Luster. The product will dry to the touch in approximately 10 minutes, and the substrate should not be subject to heavy abuse or abrasion for a minimum of 24 hours.
